With Wilkinson Eyre Architects (photos by James Brittain)

The design is comprised of a new 4-storey 2500m2 entrance block containing a double-height entrance foyer, café, mezzanine, and two floors of ICT & art studios, linked to the remodeled 1960s building.

The existing 4,300m2 building was retained to maximise the existing building structure, thereby minimising building waste and build cost. Existing problems with the building were addressed with sustainable and integrated design solutions that also transform the appearance and performance of the building; a translucent acoustic façade that sits upon 2m high letters, an innovative natural ventilation strategy that reduces running costs, and external timber sun-shading that cools the south-facing façade in summer months.

The previously congested and convoluted circulation system for the site was also re-designed, using the remodeled courtyard at the heart of the site to simplify and maximise circulation areas.
