Governed by both cost and practicality, the primary design objective was to create a dynamic intervention with the existing building that would meet the requirements of brief within a single, concentrated element.

This new intervention takes the form of a long rectangle that skewers the existing house at ground level, extending at the front to form a new entrance porch and at the rear to form the new dining room.

Opening onto the existing spaces at ground level, the insertion serves to unify these spaces and provide a new heart to the house.

The proposal presents an innovative design solution that offers the potential to breathe a new lease of life into building stock of this type, applicable across the UK.
