A new international school building, the project forms a focal point in the eastward extension of Lasdun's original campus masterplan. Accommodating UEA's centre for international students and foundation courses for entry to the university, the proposal provides accommodation for 300 students, a library, lecture theatre, and seminar rooms.
The building defines one side of a new civic square, and is organised around a landscaped courtyard and internal atrium. Open to the square at ground level, the residential element encloses the courtyard to the rear.
The residential accommodation is organised and accessed vertically to avoid long corridors, providing manageable-sized living clusters accessible directly from the internal courtyard.
