With Wilkinson Eyre Architects
Wilkinson Eyre was one of 6 practices selected by the DfES to develop a prototype exemplar secondary school design, with specific criteria to address adaptability to multiple edge-of-town sites. This was achieved by using a 'kit of parts' architectural strategy comprised of Learning Clusters and Central Facilities, all of which are connected by the central Agora, and can be configured in a number of arrangements to suit any given site.
The Learning Clusters have been sized to provide inherent flexibility in accommodating various classroom sizes and organisational strategies, allowing them to be grouped by department, house system, or year group.
The Agora provides a spacious covered concourse area for sheltered play, socialising, and passage between the buildings. Organised as a linear arrangement, the Agora can be extended over time, allowing additional Clusters to be added to accommodate increased pupil numbers.
