This project sets an innovative and sustainable example for the regeneration of a typical 1960s house, a building type that has now lived beyond its intended lifespan. Economically and environmentally driven, the existing structure of the original house has been retained yet transformed, creating a piece of high-quality architecture that minimises building waste and build costs.

Clad in hung slate, the scheme is at once contemporary and contextual, providing a discreet but courteous addition to the Devon village in which it is sited.

The proposed design also significantly improves the building's natural orientation, providing large areas of south-facing glass to optimize solar gain, reduce energy consumption, and open up views of the garden.
