This project provides a new route to a popular surf beach in southern California, bridging a high-speed railway and wetlands nature reserve.

The proposed bridge introduces a dynamic and sculptural counterpoint to the existing landscape, and incorporates a new beach entrance from the existing car park. Other elements of lacking infrastructure are also included: a lifeguard tower, toilets, outside showers, drinking fountains, and a kiosk.

Made of weathered steel plate, the structure is capable of spanning large distances, thereby requiring minimal foundations within the nature reserve and providing a resilient and robust finish that requires minimal maintenance in the sea air. In contrast, weathered timber decking provides a warm & tactile surface underfoot.
