Collaboration with Ed Francis & Klaudia Leihener

This project proposes a new cultural building typology for contemporary urban living. Providing a therapeutic and escapist retreat, the Urban Oasis offers a range of mineral pools, plunge pools, spas, and other holistic treatments within a tranquil, tropical habitat. Both greenhouse and bathhouse, the Oasis provides an extravagant alternative to the weekend get-away.

The building exploits the dynamism offered by the exposed triangular site. At ground level, a recessed double-height glass frontage contains the reception and café and defines a new covered public space.

The Oasis itself is contained within a large triple-height space, elevated two-storeys above street level and filled with light, water pools and lush vegetation; features that are expressed in the soffit below. This volume is clad in a translucent double-skin, punctuated by circular domed windows that offer glimpses of the Oasis from the street below, and controlled views of the city from within.
