Winner of the Architecture for Humanity People’s Choice Award

This project provides a new pedestrian route to a popular surf beach in southern California, bridging a high-speed railway and wetlands nature reserve.

The bridge introduces a dynamic and sculptural counterpoint to the existing landscape and incorporates a lifeguard tower, toilets, outside showers, drinking fountains, and a kiosk.

Made of weathering steel, the structure minimises the requirement for foundations within the nature reserve and provides a robust finish well-suited to the sea air.
